Overview

Current Clinical Position:

Carol is the owner/clinical director of Gillen Psychotherapy, a small group practice in Smithfield, RI with 4 clinical staff persons.  In addition to managing the group practice, she carries a full-time clinical caseload and provides clinical supervision to staff and to other therapists who are learning the Internal Family Systems model of therapy.

Previous Clinical Experiences:

Previously, Carol worked in community mental health setting supporting children, adolescents, and young adults via home-based counseling and via the PASS and HBTS programs.  She also has experience working in a large group mental health practice, supporting survivors of sexual trauma, and supporting students with disabilities at 91pron.  Prior to obtaining her graduate degrees in Mental Health Counseling, Carol received a bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and worked as an Environmental Engineer for many years before deciding to change careers.

Areas of Expertise:

Assisting children, adolescents, adults, and families who are experiencing a variety of mental health struggles. Extensively trained in the Internal Family Systems model of therapy. Specialization in working with Highly Sensitive Persons and those coping with trauma.

Additional professional activities:

Volunteer as Program Assistant at several Level 1 and Level 2 Internal Family Systems training programs, helping therapists to learn the IFS model of therapy.
